Information
Every first Sunday of February Faeto celebrates for more than 30 years its link with "le Caiunn", or the pig.
The name of the Festival is strictly in Franco Provencal, a language spoken in Faeto since the Middle Ages, thanks to the allocation of a colony of Franco Provencal soldiers and artisans in the village at the behest of the D'Angiò.
The festival is dedicated to the black pig of the Monti Dauni, indigenous breed, bred in the wild and characterized by small size and lean meat and tasty. The festival is based on the peasant custom of killing pigs between the end of January and the beginning of February to process the meat: some of them prepared for preservation and long-lasting use, using capocolli, bacon, sausages and hams to be dried; other non-perishable, consumed on the spot.
Given the remarkable work and the abundance of food, the killing of the pig became an opportunity to bring together entire families (once numerous) and friends, starting from the “friends”. The work was followed by large grilled and the cooking of the pan'unto and the inevitable fried: pieces of pork (even offal), vinegar peppers, potatoes, black olives cooked in olive oil.
The Festival of Faenza evokes a key moment of rural life, in force until a few decades ago and offers its guests the opportunity to taste the delicious meat of the black pig.
