The Arch of the Earth introduces to the heart of Roseto Valfortore and does so by presenting a suggestive view of its Mother Church.
This ancient entrance gate to the village is the only survivor among the accesses to the medieval citadel and probably represented the main passage within the walls of defense. On the outside of the wall, in a corner, there is a stone head, called the head of the marquis, which probably represents the face of one of the feudal lords who in the past administered Roseto Valfortore. In the days when the feudal lord dedicated himself to the administration of justice, to communicate it to the citizens, a flag was raised on the Gate.
